The Motorola XOOM MZ600 mobile tablet is the first true viable competitor to Apple’s iPad, featuring the Android 3.0 platform and Honeycomb OS, designed specifically for tablets. The XOOM is powered by a dual-core Nvidia Tegra 2 1-GHz processor supported by 2 Elpida packages of SDRAM totaling a full gigabyte of DDR memory. The tablet boasts an AU Optronics 10.1-in. 1,280 x 800 HD widescreen display, mated with a touchscreen module with up to 1,386 nodes and powered by the Atmel mXT1386 chipset. The tablet also has a 2-Mpixel webcam and 5-Mpixel camera with 720p HD video capture and playback. The XOOM MZ600 also has a Qualcomm MDM6600 slim modem solution supported by Toshiba MCP memory package and the companion Qualcomm PM8028 power management chip. Other features include a 24-W/hour battery, a built-in gyroscope, barometer, e-compass, accelerometer, Google Maps 5.0 with 3D interaction, and access to Google eBooks and apps from Android Market.
